Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT)

CRT is a non-surgical process clinically developed to gently reshape the cornea while you sleep. This can provide clear, natural vision when the lenses are removed upon waking. The result is a temporary correction of myopia and astigmatism. This provides freedom from glasses and contact lenses during the day. Individuals can participate in sports without the interference of glasses or the bother of contacts. (www.paragoncrt.com)

Silicon Hydrogel Contacts

The new FDA approved soft contact lenses are made from materials known as silicone hydrogels that allow up to ten times more oxygen to reach the eye compared to ordinary contacts. These contacts are clinically proven to reduce symptoms of dryness and end of day discomfort. They are available to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and very soon astigmatism and presbyopial. Some people can wear these new contact lenses continously for up to 30 nights and days.

Synergeyes Contact Lenses

The Synergeyes lens combines the crisp clear vision of a gas permeable contact lens with the comfort of a soft lens. www.synergeyes.com Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a progressive disease in which the cornea thins and changes shape. The cornea bulges, distorts and assumes more of a cone shape causing distorted vision. Custom made Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses are the treatment of choice to correct the vision. Dr. Leonard is specially trained in this delicate and time-consuming procedure. (www.nkcf.org)

Dry Eye

Dry eye syndrome is a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture in the eye. Its consequences range from subtle but constant irritation to ocular inflammation of the anterior (front) tissue of the eye.

Treatment for Dry Eyes

Dry eye syndrome is an ongoing condition that may not be cured (depends on the cause), but the accompanying dryness, scratchiness and burning may be managed. Your Optometrist may prescribe artificial tears or Restasis eyedrops that can help your eyes to increase tear production. If the problem is environmental, you should always wear sunglasses when outdoors to reduce exposure to sun, wind and dust.

Temporary or permanent silicone plugs in the lacrimal (tear) ducts to keep your eyes from draining away as quickly. Called lacrimal plugs, they can be inserted painlessly while you are in the eye doctor's office and normally not felt when inserted.
